CircuitWest Secures Funding to Strengthen the Live Performing Arts’ Technical Workforce
CircuitWest is proud to announce that it has secured $350,000 in funding over the next two years, directed at strengthening the technical workforce within the live performing arts sector in Western Australia. This investment is made possible through the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries.
Western Australian performing arts technicians are facing significant challenges, including demanding employment conditions, inadequate career development, and a lack of sector recognition. These issues were underscored in the recent report, Live Performing Arts Technical Sector.
With this critical funding, CircuitWest can implement targeted solutions designed to revitalise this workforce. As the lead body for performing arts in Western Australia, the not-for-profit will focus on improving employment practices, enhancing career pathways, and fostering a positive work culture, while also prioritising education and training for both current and future performing arts technical professionals.
Hon. David Templeman MLA, Minister for Culture and the Arts, says, “The live performing arts sector plays a vital role in Western Australia’s dynamic arts and culture landscape, and our technical workforce is key to its continued success. This funding reflects the State Government’s 10-Year Vision for Culture and the Arts in Western Australia: Creative WA. It is an essential step toward ensuring the sustainability and growth of the live performing arts industry in our state. I applaud CircuitWest for their commitment to supporting and recognising our local technical professionals and their invaluable contributions to Western Australia’s vibrant cultural scene.”
Philippa Maughan, Executive Director at CircuitWest, says, “This funding marks a turning point for the technical workforce within the live performing arts sector in Western Australia. With the support of the State Government, we are implementing crucial changes over the next two years, creating a more sustainable and vibrant environment for our performing arts technical professionals. We encourage all stakeholders, including educational institutions, local government, arts organisations, and industry professionals, to come together in this important initiative. We need to collaborate to strengthen and enhance the resilience of the live performing arts sector, ensuring that high-quality performing arts continues to reach communities, spaces and venues across our State.”
End.
