Duet with the Wind

Brenna Day

Two artists dance with the wind and each other in a celebration of human connection, and our environment.

A choreographed performance of two bodies in gravity-defying motion, high above the crowd. Watch as the performers appear to float effortlessly in the air. For them the wall becomes the floor, the sky becomes the stage, and the expected interactions with a building are quite literally flipped on their head.

Inspired by the short film made on the Wilyabrup sea cliffs Duet with the Wind is a site specific vertical dance performance, utilising the side of a local building. The resilience and fragility of the human body is juxtaposed against the structures we have made and the environment we all exist in.

Vertical dance is a performance art where a dancer is suspended in a harness from a rope or cable and explores the difference in gravity, weightlessness and varied movement possibilities offered by the suspended state.

Company Bio

Brenna is an aerialist and acrobat specialising in aerial hoop and standing on her friends.  She draws inspiration from her background in science, the world around her, and the connections that can be created between performers and the audience.

Brenna started circus in Fremantle at Circus WA before finally completing the running away part of joining the circus in 2015 when she moved to the UK to study at Circomedia. While at Circomedia Brenna's studies focused on aerials and acrobatics but also included physical theatre, movement, dance and choreography. Despite 3 months of compulsory classes she is still a terrible juggler.

In 2019 Brenna teamed up with engineer turned circus artist Ben from Yip Yip Circus to realise her science circus show dreams. The result was CRITICAL which was awarded the FRINGEWORLD 2019 West Australian Circus Award. This has led Brenna to start down the path of creating more of her own work, including a stand alone lecture/performance piece The Physics of Spinning, and a vertical dance short film Above the Waves - The Wilyabrup Project.
