A RESTING MESS

Ainslie Allan

How do we rest and wrestle with the chaos of our world?

A Resting Mess is an immersive community engagement project which culminates in a visceral dance/live sound performance. It explores human and planetary fatigue via a wild, warm-hearted 75 minutes. Dancers navigate, toss and dive through a landscape of recyclable materials and household items. The performance space doubles as interactive resting room – for movement and meditation, schools workshops and deep conversations about care and sustainability. The project can be tailored to specific needs/interests of regional WA communities, bringing people together to write, reflect, rest together and co-create a community arts space.

Company Bio

Ainslie Allan (fka Daisy Sanders) is a Boorloo-based dance, experimental and community artist. Their 15-year choreographic practice is grounded in enduring collaborations with interdisciplinary artists and companies. Ainslie was University of Otago's 2023 Caroline Plummer Fellow (Aotearoa), company artist Sensorium Theatre (2016-current), pvi collective (2024) and the 2025 Artistic Director of Stompin Youth Dance. Original works include A Resting Mess (2016-current), Womb for World Weeping (STRUT Dance 2022) and Room to Rest (Arts Centre Melbourne 2021). Experience of chronic illness led Ainslie to develop a movement method and philosophy for creative leadership that is communal and healing.
