CircuitWest is proud to release Residency Touring – Where Trust Pays Off, a new video resource offering a real‑world look at why residency touring has become such an attractive model for presenters across WA.
Residency touring – sometimes called “slow touring” – prioritises deeper, more deliberate connection between artists and communities. Many presenters are increasingly seeking to program residency tours, and funders have recognised the need for flexible touring models that support longer engagements. The release of this video comes at a time when demand for residency-based work continues to grow.
A closer look at Mama Stitch
The video spotlights one of the first and most successful residency tours CircuitWest has supported through the WA Government’s Playing WA program – Mama Stitch by Whiskey & Boots. The video focuses on the company’s residencies in Narrogin and Ravensthorpe and features interviews with lead artists Georgia King and Mark Storen, Brad Flett (Arts Narrogin) and Ainsley Foulds (Rave About Arts).
The video offers practical insights into what residency tours can look like, what they require, and the rewards they bring. It highlights the importance of providing artists with space to work, time to meet community members, and opportunities for audiences to engage directly in the creative process.
“Everything’s so instant these days. What [residency touring] does is slow things down.”
Ainsley Foulds – Rave About Arts
