Shows on the Go program to continue bringing theatre to regional audiences
- Shows on the Go extended to mid-2023
- Program enables regional audiences to curate shows for their local community
The successful Shows on the Go program will continue into 2023 thanks to an $860,000 funding commitment over two years from the McGowan Government.
Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman made the announcement at the Koorliny Arts Centre in Kwinana, which is set to take part in the program.
To be delivered by CircuitWest, Shows on the Go is a community-driven touring model successfully developed and run by Regional Arts WA for the past 25 years, that will continue to give Western Australians – mainly in the regions – the chance to curate what shows they would like to see.
As part of the program, communities are offered the opportunity to select shows from a range of genres including theatre, dance, music, children’s entertainment, circus, puppetry and comedy.
The proposed program is for smaller, regional professional and non-professional venues, where the performing arts touring shows are selected from a range of options by the community and provided at low cost.
The program has also now been expanded to include outer metropolitan areas such as Kwinana.
The Shows on the Go program provides a unique chance to address the challenges and issues of touring shows, introducing a growth pathway for community venues to present established works to their communities.
Comments attributed to Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:
“The productions funded through the Shows on the Go program provide high-quality entertainment to local audiences, galvanising shared community experiences.
“I’m also pleased to announce that another important feature of the program is a renewed focus on Western Australian work.
“In addition, CircuitWest will continue to deliver a professional development program to build audiences and address long-term planning creating a social and economic legacy for these local communities.
“The program will create jobs, extend employment opportunities and bring economic investment to these communities as they learn the skills of presenting and providing works of enjoyment and impact.”
Comments attributed to Kwinana MLA Roger Cook:
“This is a great program that will now be offered to Kwinana locals for the first time.
“I know that many people will benefit from and enjoy the works on offer.”
