The Steve Hensby Band to Electrify the Indian Ocean Territories
CircuitWest announces this year’s Indian Ocean Territories Tour featuring the exhilarating Steve Hensby Band, a 9-piece sonic explosion blending funk, soul, ska, world music, with a sprinkle of psychedelia and a dash of folk. Known for their genre-defying energy and infectious stage presence, the band delivered their electrifying live show on Christmas Island from 2–4 May, and will bring the same dynamic performance to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands from 7–9 May.
Led by Berklee College of Music graduate and Western Australian Music (WAM) Award-winning musician, Steve Hensby, the ensemble has become a staple of the Western Australia arts scene. With a powerful horn section, rich musicality, and a reputation for getting audiences on their feet, the group offers a truly immersive musical experience.
Steve Hensby says, “For us, music is about creating shared moments – getting people dancing, smiling, and feeling something real. Touring to places like the Indian Ocean Territories is incredibly special. We’re so looking forward to meeting the community, playing our hearts out, and hopefully leaving behind some great memories and a few sore dancing feet!”
The Indian Ocean Territories Tour is a unique, community-led initiative, with local presenters on Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands selecting the artists who visit their shores.
Philippa Maughan, Executive Director at CircuitWest, says, “The Indian Ocean Territories Tour is a fantastic example of community-driven programming, where local presenters have the opportunity to bring the performing arts that appeal most with their communities. We’re pleased to bring the Steve Hensby Band to the islands this year – a group known for their vibrant energy and diverse sound. This tour is made possible with the ongoing support of the Commonwealth and State Governments, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the local audiences.”
This tour is coordinated by CircuitWest and is supported by the Australian Government – Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, and the State Government – Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
