GALUP VR EXPERIENCE

Created by Ian Wilkes and Poppy van Oorde-Grainger with an oral history from Doolann-Leisha Eatts

Noongar Elder Doolann-Leisha Eatts shares a buried history hidden for nearly 200 years.

In the heart of suburban Perth there’s a lake with a buried history. Noongar Elder Doolann-Leisha Eatts spent her life sharing the story of what really happened there. Galup VR Experience invites you to sit with Doolann by her fire and hear the truth for yourself. Highlighting the ongoing impact of colonisation, this intimate truth-telling experience brings people together for connection and healing and will resonate with you long after you leave.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audience members are advised that this production includes names, images and voices of people who have passed away. Names, images and voices of the deceased are used with permission.

Reviews

Participant Testimonials:

“The VR session was a surprisingly intimate experience… There must be so many beautiful places in WA that we take for granted but which have a complex history – it is so important for us to acknowledge and address this history. Sessions like this are a step in the right direction”.

“I was genuinely moved – such an important story and just beautifully told – it was spot on – nothing more and nothing less. I think you’re setting the bar for how truth telling can be done in this country.”

“Super informative and engaging experience, I was very grateful to have the opportunity to learn about this piece of history… The way the sessions were facilitated was really sensitive, trauma-informed and respectful… I have recommended this to lots of people already!”
