Arthur Haynes and the Smoking Gun

THEATRE 180 INC

The incredible true story of a crime which shocked the nation, and the courtroom trial which tested the law in Western Australia – the scandalous murder of Cyril Gidley by Audrey Jacob in 1925 in front of hundreds of guests at a charity ball at Government House Ballroom.
The play explores the turbulent times following the ravages of WWI as society’s values were changing and young people were living life with passion through the Roaring Twenties. As the story unfolds the facts become mired in speculation, and what initially appeared as an open & shut case becomes more difficult to determine. With 1920’s music, sweeping visuals & a talented cast, it’s a dramatic piece of theatre like no other!

ARTHUR HAYNES AND THE SMOKING GUN is a dramatic exploration of justice, truth, and societal change. A unique venue, combined with a strong script and talented performances, makes this a must-see exploration of a part of the city’s fabric. THEATRE 180 create a genuine connection to a century-old event that is a major part of Perth history with a powerful and evocative piece of theatre that leaves you pondering the elusive nature of truth long after the final curtain. The destiny of Arthur Haynes and the Smoking Gun hopefully will be to tour far and wide as the latest smash-hit for THEATRE 180. STEPHEN BEVIS

Another fantastic play! Amazing in every sense of the word. A memorable play that is still lingering in my mind, such was the power of the actors. GWENYTH LENNON
